NEW YORK (AP) - The Los Angeles Clippers have landed the reigning ACC scoring champ, snaring Florida State forward Al Thornton with the 14th pick in the NBA draft.
Thornton averaged 19.7 points a game while shooting 53% from the field as a senior, including 44% from 3-point range. Thornton also averaged a career-high 7.2 rebounds last season after pacing Florida State in scoring the previous campaign.
Thornton was named a Third Team All-America by The Associated Press last season. He landed on the All-ACC Second Team in 2006 after averaging 16 points and seven boards.
The 6-8 Thornton made tremendous strides after his sophomore season, becoming a versatile scorer and a strong outside threat. Thornton shot 52% or better in each of his four years at FSU.
